3rd Grade
WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE
In 3rd grade, students dive into adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, along with solving fun word problems. They also explore fractions, discover how multiplication and division are connected, and find the area of shapes. By the end of the year, students will confidently add and subtract within 1,000 and multiply/divide numbers 0-12.
Writing becomes an exciting adventure as students create letters, personal stories, fiction, and research reports. They learn to revise, edit, and even practice writing in cursive! In reading, they explore a variety of texts, discovering the author’s point of view, figurative language, and text features.
In social studies, students explore civics, economics, geography, and life in colonial America, while comparing their community to other regions of Colorado. In science, they learn about living systems, weather, climate, states of matter, forces, motion, and fossils, making exciting connections to the world around them.
Along the way, students build important social skills, learning how to work independently, follow directions, share, and collaborate with friends in group activities. It’s a year full of growth and discovery!
